Nars Powder Foundation (Fiji)

After a terrible encounter from Mac for matching me with my acne scarring instead of my actual skin tone, ( I am an NC20-NC25 but she matched me to NC35) I remember her name..... Pretty face though. And the powder also broke me out..Lucky me I live about 20 minutes away from MAC Alamanda. I was on the hunt for a new powder foundation. Just so that I can wear something on the go, like a 5 minute makeup day. Or 10 minutes. I never have any good memories with drugstore powders, although I collect a lot of drugstore powders, they works more like a setting powder instead. Most of them being too sheer and I could not find a good one that provides enough coverage. Or maybe I wasn't looking hard enough? With my constant break outs I was really hesitant to get new powders anywhere in the world.

Being a Nars addict myself, I bought the powder foundations from Sephora. (This was before Nars opens its stores in Malaysia) It came in the mail and shattered! Thank God for Isopropyl Alcohol, I fixed it and it was fine but it became a little bit dry. I still use it to this day. I purchased a back up, (actually I just bought another one because the first one looks ugly and cracked and I don't feel like using it) Once fixed, I use it again and again and it cracked again. But. I still love it. So there, now I have two powder foundations which could last me a really long time. And I have guiltiness creeping inside of me too.

Based on my experience, I would not use this a setting powder, read: its a powder foundation anyway, I tried it as setting powder once and it was a fail. The foundation cakes up. I have yet to tried it under my eye concealer though. My mother took a tissue and rub it off my face in front of my aunties because she said it was way too much makeup! I was embarrassed! Ugh. She is always paranoid about putting on makeup because it looks fake for her. Sigh.

I love the finish though, it gives me a lovely matte finish, with primer, it fades through out the day after 6 to 7 hours, without primer 4 to 5 hours. I buffed the powder using a buffing brush instead of the white sponge that came with the powder. I just buff till I couldn't buff anymore. My shade is Light 5 Fiji. Matches light to medium skin tone with yellow undertones. Most importantly, it doesn't break me out. For 12g of products, mirror and sponge included, plus the chic yet bulky and easily dirty rubberized packaging, its a mixed feelings of a splurge and a steal. How did I find my shade? HERE. How did I know it is my shade? Through multiple research and reviews and question of course. Always do your research before buying anything online. Do I still love Mac powders? Only if it doesn't break me out though.

I do recommend this powder foundation for the finish it gives, the staying power, and the color ranges which almost everybody could find their match. And  for those of you who likes to splurge a little bit, a Nars lover like me, or who just love trying out new powders.

What is your favorite powder foundation?

The Nars Experience

Complimentary gift from Nars Malaysia. It was a mini red nail polish called Tomorrow's Red.
Thank you Nars Malaysia.

I had Salad Landaise from ThePressroom. The perfectly cooked duck breast and the crunchiness from the toasted pine nuts just won me over. I think I want to order this again 'if' I go there.

Everybody is having their scrumptious lunch, divine desserts and chit chatting away. I'm the last to arrive so everybody knew everybody already. Everyone had a good time it seems.

Whisked back to the Nars store and I was about to take pictures of my favorite makeup brand when Justin the Nars makeup artist ask me to join him for the makeover.

The beautiful mess.

There's both Hani & Hanny in the reflections.

My favorite section at my favorite cosmetics store. I want all of those. Seriously.

My makeup artist, Justin was very helpful and friendly and made me feel at ease. I love how he explains everything clearly, and I just learned more about my skin, things I didn't even know before. He recommended me on what products and colors that suits my skin tone. I just simply put them in my wishlist.

1. The first step is to cleansed my face from any trace of makeup with the Nars Makeup Removing Water that literally feels like water and smells very refreshing. It is an alcohol, oil, and soap free water that tones the skin at the same time. I felt instantly rejuvenated and it doesn't have any scent to it. I like how it does not tingles at all which is wonderful.

2. He applied a Nars Optical Brightening Concentrate serum, it contains Vitamin C and Noni Fruit Extract to help with signs of aging. The serum penetrates deep into the skin and will help to diminish any dark spots or scars and will help to brighten the complexion with continued use. To moisturize the skin, he used Aqua Gel Luminous Oil Free Moisturizer which is suitable for my combination skin. I like how the moisturizer is very cooling, and doesn't feel sticky at all. My skin felt refreshed and hydrating.

3. Afterwards he applied an Oil Free Pore Refining Primer (RM145) which he suggest is good for combination skin like mine. It will help the makeup to adheres better to the skin and even out the skin tone in some way. I love this primer for its velvety texture and pore refining properties.

4. He then applied the Radiant Cream Compact Foundation (RM145) in the shade Fiji using his finger so the foundation will warm up and blends seamlessly into the skin. He likes to show the skin through and not cover it all up to avoid looking cakey, thick and too made up.

5. For my dark circles and pigmentation he used the Radiant Cream Concealer in Honey. (RM100) The hyped concealer covers my dark circles nicely but it still looks natural. He dabbed some of the concealer onto some of my dark spots too. This concealer is hydrating but offers medium to full coverage. Its a favorite among many people.

6. For a perfectly natural flushed cheeks, the multiple in Riviera (RM140) is used in dabbing motion on the apples of the cheek. I love the glow it gives. I think I need Riviera in my life now. I always avoided pink cheeks but now I adore it. He also contour using the blush in Madly (RM120) which I never thought of. It sculpted the face subtly but it works. I'm madly in love with Madly!

7. The Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder (RM130) is dust all over the face to set the makeup, and he did my brows using the Brow Perfector, and combing it through with the Nars Brow Gel so the brows stay put and trimmed. I love the way he did my brows, its natural but full but perfectly not too thick and not to thin. I never do my brows like this, I think I have been doing it all wrong?

6. On my eyes it is a natural eye look with a wash of light golden color on the lid, a dark brown eyeshadow called Fez (RM90) on the crease, a black gel liner or an Eye Paint on top and bottom lash and finish it off with a Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara. (RM95) Although I wear a lot of neutral eyes, I have never worn it like this, perhaps its the product itself or maybe my techniques is still weak.

7. For the bold lips, he chose the Pure Matte Lipstick in Mascate.(RM90), a bright, bold, red color with hint of orange undertones and it makes my teeth look whiter. However I'm afraid it would scare people off, hence I asked for a red plummy color, Satin Lip Pencil in Palais Royal (RM85) was used and it gives a very elegant look to the face, it is a dark, berry, red color with hint of shine. I was not feeling the color, that is just me being indecisive, and its a vampy look in day time, so Justin kindly used Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Damned (RM85), another berry, wine color which is right my alley and the color is a wearable red color that I could happily pull off.

I didn't have any before and after photos and the ones I had are not doing any justice of how pretty the makeup is. I immediately looking forward to take photos of all the stunning colors on display but was also trying to choose something to buy, so there I was all over the place contemplating this and that and didn't manage to catch up with other girls who are all prettily made up. I feel bad but I also don't want my family to wait for me for hours long. Sigh.

Thank you Nars Malaysia and Miss Paris and to Justin for this lovely experience. I learned a lot and it was a very enjoyable experience.

We'll meet again!

Top 10 Favorite Online Shop

There are days when you just want to sit at home and wish to buy something all from the comfort of your own sanctuary. That is what I love to do when the urge to shop kicks in but I do not want to go out. Or maybe I just can't go out.

Here are some impressive online shop that I always buy from and they hardly disappoints. By impressive  I mean I do not have to pay for more than the original price. Cosmetics in Malaysia are getting expensive because of the taxes, shipping fees and who knows what else. It takes lots of cash invested to look beautiful today. With online shopping, I just have to spend a few ringgit on shipping and taxes which never goes up to more than RM30.00 in my experience. But the price tag of the makeup is the same and it is not doubled.  I do not buy in bulk, I just buy in small quantities, and never had any problems with customs.

1. Colors Cosmetics
I bought most of my Nyx Cosmetics fix, Jordana, Milani, Sleek and Wet N Wild here. Basically mostly drugstore products. They also sells Sigma Beauty, BH Cosmetics and other affordable makeup. Service is very satisfying, you can chat with them online and delivery is super fast. I usually received my parcel in 2 days unless if I made an order on Friday, I would receive it by Saturday or Monday. My trusted local online shop. They are based in Penang and do COD in certain areas in Penang. They use AirPak Express for shipping and free delivery is eligible for puchase of RM150 and above. Definitely one of my top picks!

2. Luxola
Luxola is based in Singapore, they ship to Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei, Australia, Hong Kong, Philippines and also the United Arab Emirates. I love Luxola for their  speedy delivery, and excellent customer service. They use Aramex for delivery but sadly Aramex did not ship to my house.. Err. Hence I requested the Luxola Team to use GdEx instead. Immediately they inform Aramex regarding that and I welcomed the parcel from GdEx. Excellent isn't it? The best part is, free delivery for any orders over RM40.00. They offer a lot more brand that will never be available in Malaysia I think? I shop my Z-Palette, Sigma, Sleek and Just Herbs scrubs here. Be on the lookout for sales because I always waited for sales before I buy. Could save a whole lot more!

3. KissAndMakeupNY
Okay. This might be intimidating for some of you who never shop on an international online shop like this. But do not be. Just make sure you have a credit or debit card, and a Paypal account. And you can shop stress free. They ship worldwide. Its fixed shipping rates and the variety of brands available really got me hooked on them. They have a standing store in New York. I buy some of my Nars and Laura Mercier here, other brands available are Smashbox, Trish McEvoy, Kiehl's and Fresh. Others includes Clarisonic, Beauty Blender, Moroccan Oil, The Lip Scrub, and the list is just endless. When you compare the Nars or Laura Mercier price sold here and online, you get to save around RM10 to RM20 more or less. When its come to saving, I'm in.

4. Cherry Culture
Another popular online makeup shop is definitely Chery Culture. Why? International shipping, discounts rates almost all the time, and most of your favorite drugstore brands are available! China Glaze, LA Girl, NYX, Milani and Jordana among others, can be purchase here. Check out their shipping rates HERE. Although you have to wait for 2-3 weeks maximum to receive your order, do not fret, at least you got them at a cheaper price when compared to the ones sold here.
5. BeautyJoint
Beauty Joint is one of the leading online drugstore makeup shop on the planet today. So many affordable brands to be discovered here, ELF, Rimmel, Revlon, NYC, Ardell, Real Techniques, accessories, brushes, falsies and so much more! But surprisingly they also offers high end brands such as Lime Crime. I love browsing through their sites and making my long wishlists.

6. NonPareilBoutique
If you really love shopping online like I do, here is another store to shop for your CoverGirl, LA Girl, Z-Palette, Urban Decay, Tarte and Buxom among many others. They have a mix of drugstore and high end brands to shop for and sometimes they have sales for certain brands too. This online shop is unknown to many but I love to shop here and they shipped to Malaysia. It doesn't get any better than that.

7. Sephora
No surprises here, Sephora is the place to go for makeup addicts and skin care enthusiasts alike. All the high end makeup brands you could think of is probably in Sephora. Get your Bobbi Brown, MUFE, Bare Minerals, Yves Saint Laurent, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Clinique among others plus Sephora in house brand is readily available too. With so many selections of products available, you'll be spoilts for choice. Plus, every purchase you made is accompanied with 3 or sometimes 5 free samples.

Massive variety of brands available such as Jessica Simpson, Kate Moss for Topshop, Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Mac Cosmetics, Bobbi Brown, The Balm, Chanel, Jimmy Choo and so much more. They don't ship to Malaysia and I do not understand why? Could it be our customs? They ship to Maldives but not Malaysia sorry. Try the link below for details on how to order anything you want Nordstrom

10. ASOS
For fashion aficionado, ASOS is the top choice for international brands that possibly are not available locally. Hundreds of designer brands sold here and they ship to Malaysia and almost 190 countries around the world. Although they sells mostly women and men fashions, a few cosmetics brands such as Stila, Illamasqua, Nars and Korres can be obtain here too. Labels suchs as ASOS own fashion line, Levi's, Warehouse, Juicy Couture, Calvin Klein and Mango are also sold here.

Some of the stores may not ship to Malaysia but there is another option HERE.

Collection Cosmetics : Affordable & Worthy

If you're familiar with Collection2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer, you can now have this brand on your nearest Watson's. Made popular among beauty bloggers and YouTube beauty vloggers alike, their concealer are deemed HG material for many. They had changed the brand name to Collection now. I bought the concealer online on ebay at a hefty price and I am so glad I can now buy it here. It is comparable to the Estee Lauder Double Wear concealer but since I do not have that in my stash, I can only say maybe? But I love the concealer for its amazing coverage and longevity. I think many of you would like it too. Unfortunately it only comes in 3 shades wish is Light, Fair and Medium.

I love this Watson's in my neighborhood because its a rare sight to see people hounding for makeup all the time. I basically get to sit there and do swatches for as long as I want. And no curios looking SA's following me around. That is the perks of living in a small town. People would just buy what they want and leave. And the SA's won't bother about you touching the product and looking at everything. Like me.

It is placed right next to Essence Cosmetics which is cheaper than Collection.
If you look close enough, you can see the prices. Very reasonably priced right. I just love.. :)

Some of my favorites are :

1. Lasting Perfection Concealer RM19.90
2. Lasting Perfection 16 Hour Powder RM25.90
3. Cream Puff Matte Finish Lip Cream RM19.90
4. Glam Crystals Liner RM22.90
5. Eyeshadow Pencil RM21.80
6. No Clumps Definition Mascara RM26.90
7. Shimmer Shades RM29.90
8. Ultimate Fix Cream to Powder Foundation RM29.90
9. Lasting Perfection 16 Hour Foundation RM35.90
10. Moisturizing Lip Cream RM26.90

This is a good, inexpensive and attractive looking brand and it would be a new preferred choice
for bargain beauty amongst makeup admirer. We have more options now.
Interestingly enough, the Cream Puff Lip Cream is the exact dupe for Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream
The smell is almost identical, like a sweet vanilla scent, the texture is similar too, quite mousse-y and the pigmentation is spot on.  It only comes in four colors though. The Eyeshadow Pencil is probably the cousin to Nyx Jumbo Pencil, but wears longer, and it comes in 5 colors.

The drawbacks are however, limited selection of shades for foundations, powders, concealers,
plus blushes too. But I know we will all find something in there, something that could be reckoned
as your holy grail.

Swatches of some of the Collection Cosmetics coming up soon!

We'll meet again for sure!

MakeupGeek Eyeshadow Review & Swatches

When I first became addicted to YouTube to watch my favorite songs, I accidentally became obsessed with watching makeup tutorials, this was about 8 years ago! At that time, makeup tutorials was not as big as it is today. Among those whom I watch regularly were panacea81 and makeupgeektv and imogenfoxylocks. . I tend to watch these three ladies most of the time, I know I have always love anything beauty related, but because of the demanding life of being a student, my attention sort of diverted and I was not as fascinated to makeup as I am today. Even though now I watch other YouTube guru's, I will always will remember a few of the first beauty guru's who introduced me to the beauty world.

Anyways let's check out the product!

I fell in love with Makeup Geek eyeshadows when I saw how Jaclyn Hill uses them in her makeup tutorials. Yes,she's the one to blame for most of my makeup wish list and the list never ends! She praises those eyeshadows and how it is comparable to Mac eyeshadows, so I thought, why not try it for myself? I looked up online for swatches and reviews and they do not disappoint, Marlena (the founder of MakeupGeek) did an awesome job! And the colors are mostly right up my alley which is bronzey, warm, neutral, pinky, reddish brown, and golden-ish. The colorful colors such as yellows, blues, greens and purples are gorgeous too! I definitely would love to try some of the colorful ones soon.

The best part of these beauties is that it is crazy pigmented, meaning you only need a tiny bit and it would last you a long time! Plus its dirt cheap too, or shall I say affordable! I started to feel uneasy if I didn't have them in my stash so I immediately ordered it online.

I carefully opened them because I know how buttery these eyeshadows are, however they arrived safe and healthy! It was boxed in a small box with lots of bubble wrap in it, even though they are fragile, the eyshadows didn't shattered or break at all. I started ordering 6 and I would get my hands on more, I must! I kept them snug and happy in my cheetah print Z-Pallete and they do belong in there!

Besides eyeshadows, they also have lipsticks and brushes, gel liners and also stunning pigments which is very popular among beauty lovers. Trust me when I say, you will not regret buying them because they are really good. I am now waiting for the day to order more from them, excited to try their brushes and pigments! Now I don't have to worry to splurge on Mac eyeshadows anymore because I can save on MakeupGeek's!

Shimma Shimma, Peach Smoothie, Creme Brûlée

Glamorous, Preppy, Cocoa Bear

Here is Cocoa Bear, almost looks like a dupe for Mac Brown Script. It is a matte reddish brown,
with shots of maroon and orange running through it. It blends effortlessly as with all of the other eyeshadows
and it is my favorite!

Preppy is a matte olive brown color, it is not completely green, but it is one of the most unique
olive color I have ever seen. This color looks boring in the pan but it transforms into a very
pretty dark neutral green on the eye if that makes sense. I would definitely suggest this color
for neautral eyeshadow lovers because it is different from all the browns and beiges.

Glamorous is a beautiful golden pinkish color with a hint of peach and shimmers in it. Its
a shimmery color and no glitter at all. Blends smoothly and the pigmentation is amazing.

Just a wash of Glamorous on the eyelid and few strokes of mascara and I'm ready to go.

Creme Brûlée is matte light brown, probably similar in comparison to
Soft Brown by Mac but correct me if I''m wrong. Stunning for a crease color.

Shimma Shimma is a dupe for Mac Nylon. Its a neutral beige with almost
pink undertone shimmer color and perfect for brow highlight and brightening the inner corner.
I am obsessed with brow highlight btw.

Peach Smoothie is a matte light peach with warm undertone IMHO and
is suitable for transition and crease color. Works well for a wash of color on the eyelid too.

L-R : Shimma Shimma,Peach Smoothie,Creme Bruleè,Glamorous,Preppy,Cocoa Bear.

The swatches are true to color. Shimma Shimma just almost blend in into my skin.
But I think they're even more prettier in person. My lighting is not co-operating today.

Price : $5.99 for pans / $6.99 for compacts
Tell me if you have tried MakeupGeek eyeshadows and what is your favorite shade?

We'll meet again!

MWS Presents: The NARS Experience!

Let me start by saying... Oh.My.God. I am so thankful for this.

I was checking through my emails today and could not believe my eyes when I received an email from Miss Paris BMW'S  congratulating me for being chosen as one of the lucky 8 participants in The NARS Experience event  in NARS store in Pavillion, Kuala Lumpur, on Sunday, May 11th 2014. The exclusive event is to learn more about their newly released Radiant Creamy Foundation Compact and a makeover by NARS makeup artrists!

I have always wanted to try the foundation compact but waited a little too long to get it! I guess it is now the time for me to have a play with it! And a sweet little makeover? Oh My... I am really looking forward to this. I want a complete NARS face and I could probably will not take it off! I was beyond ecstatic for getting a spot, although at first I did not put too much hope on earning a place. However I secretly want to be selected, therefore I was quite surprised that they chose me. I would be DEVASTATED if I didn't get to go, therefore it was a very lovely surprise indeed on this beautiful Friday afternoon. :)

I must say that I felt so lucky and over-whelmed plus I am so overjoyed for this opportunity! I shall post snapshots of the event soon. Here is the link to the contest held by the Nars Pavillion team and Miss Paris. For those of you who didn't get to go, there is always a next time, maybe bigger, perhaps better! ;)

I love calling her Miss Paris by the way. :) I would also love to see my fellow 'Nars-cissist' :)

A massive thank you to Miss Paris and Nars Malaysia again!
